The Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award has been developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK and is designed for individuals that have a responsibility to respond to a swimming pool in the event of an emergency, either to perform a rescue or assist a lifeguard team.
The Emergency Rescuer can be any member of the facility called upon to rescue and provide first aid. The Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award is not intended to be used in place of a lifeguard qualification, such as the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). The NPLQ includes more detailed training and content to prepare someone to directly supervise a swimming pool.
It is the responsibility of the swimming pool operator to determine relevant precautions and specific needs relating specifically to training, and suitable qualifications of their employees and facility. For swimming pools that require direct supervision, it is recommended the RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is used.
For swimming pools that require direct supervision, it is recommended that the RLSS UK NPLQ is used. Visit www.rlss.org.uk/nplq for more details.
