National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

The R.L.S.S.  N.P.L.Q. is a nationally recognised qualification. It would appeal to those, wishing to join the leisure/recreation industry either full or part-time. Usual participants are students, school leavers, people changing employment prospects or those wishing to progress their knowledge of pool skills. The qualification has a base of topics such as: Pool Lifeguarding, Theory & Principles, Practical Rescuing, Immediate Response, Contact rescuing, Deep Water work, Resuscitation on Adults Children and Babies, First Aid Knowledge and Dealing with Various Conditions.

The pre-requisites for joining an NPLQ course are as follows:
Candidates must be over 16 years of age prior to the commencement of the course and must meet the following criteria: • Be able to jump/dive into deep water • Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water • Tread water for 30 seconds • Surface dive to the floor of the pool • Climb out unaided without the aid of ladder or steps.
